San Antonio Military Medical Center
San Antonio Military Medical Center, also known as SAMMC, is the combined efforts of Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. BAMC is known as SAMMC-North and WHMC is SAMMC-South.

BRAC 2005 (Base Realignment and Closure)
In 1988, 1991, 1993, and 1995, the Defense Department executed base realignments and closures (BRAC) through a legally specified process. Through the BRAC process, the Defense Department evaluates its current stationary plan against multiple variables; the changes in threat, force structures, technologies, doctrine, organization, business practices, and plant inventory. BRAC 2005 recommends the consolidation of Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas into one medical region with two integrated campuses known as San Antonio Military Medical Center. In this proposal, Brooke Army Medical Center will become the inpatient tertiary care center providing all inpatient care as well as all trauma and emergency medical care. The facility will be known as SAMMC - North. Wilford Hall Medical Center will be converted into a large ambulatory care center, SAMMC - South.[1]
South Campus (Lackland AFB - Wilford Hall Medical Center)
Wilford Hall Medical Center will be realigned as a large outpatient clinic designed to meet the outpatient medical needs of Lackland Air Force Base and the surrounding eligible population. Some renovation will be required to accommodate new services. In addition to Primary Care a full range of Specialty Clinics, Ambulatory Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory and Pharmacy will be provided. All inpatient and emergency care will be located on the SAMMC-N (BAMC) campus.[2]
North Campus (Ft. Sam Houston - Brooke Army Medical Center)
With the consolidation of inpatient services at the North Campus, the existing BAMC facility was projected to receive additions and alterations to accommodate new requirements. Additions Include:
- Administrative: Primarily administrative and support functions, including limited clinical activities
- Hospital: ER expansion to accommodate the consolidated trauma mission and bed realignment.

Due to the need to decongest the BAMC facility through realignment of Family Medicine services for Active Duty and, Active Duty Family Members and Retirees, a freestanding clinic on Ft. Sam Houston is proposed. Space within BAMC vacated by Family Medicine will be reutilized by specialty care clinics associated with inpatient services.
The new Primary Care Clinic will provide a health clinic to support BRAC 2005 re-stationing actions. The re-stationing actions require a substantial increase in the inpatient and specialty healthcare workload at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston. The increase in workload results from the shifting of workload from Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC), the medical treatment facility at Lackland Air Force Base which is being downsized from a medical center to an ambulatory clinic. In order to create inpatient and specialty healthcare facilities at BAMC a separate healthcare facility to meet the outpatient healthcare requirements currently located within BAMC is necessary. The health clinic will also accommodate the outpatient healthcare workload generated by the projected enrolled population increase by thousands of active duty soldiers and their family members as directed by the BRAC 2005 re-stationing actions.
Budge Dental Clinic
An addition/alteration to Budge Dental Clinic is proposed to provide additional dental treatment capacity to support BRAC 2005 re-stationing actions at Fort Sam Houston. This project will provide additional dental facilities required to support the dental workload generated by the projected enrolled population increase by thousands of active duty personnel.
McWethy Troop Medical Clinic
An addition/alteration to McWethy Troop Medical Clinic is proposed to provide additional health treatment capacity to support BRAC 2005 re-stationing actions at Fort Sam Houston. This project concept will renovate and provide additional healthcare facilities required to support the healthcare workload generated by the projected enrolled population increase by thousands duty trainees.

Camp Bullis Health Clinic
A health clinic located on Camp Bullis to support the training mission as well as TRICARE Prime enrollment
Stone Oak Lease Clinic
Through a shared DOD/VA sharing initiative, a jointly occupied lease clinic located in the Stone Oak area of North San Antonio
